A Zesty Twist on Dutch Distilling Tradition
In the quiet Dutch town of Dordrecht, where the Rutte family has been distilling fine spirits since 1872, innovation and tradition walk hand in hand. Among copper stills and age-old family recipes, Master Distiller Myriam Hendrickx found herself inspired not by what was old—but by what could be new.
Rutte has always been rooted in nature. The original recipes by Simon Rutte included herbs, fruits, and botanicals sourced from local markets and exotic trade routes alike. So when the idea for a new gin arose, one that would add a fresh twist to the classic Dutch dry style, Hendrickx looked toward something boldly aromatic: the kaffir lime leaf.
Tasting profile
Nose
Bright and aromatic, with an intense citrus burst from the kaffir lime leaves, complemented by hints of fresh herbs and subtle floral undertones. The nose is fresh, vibrant, and inviting, with an unmistakable zesty edge.
Taste
The first sip reveals a zesty tang of kaffir lime, delivering a bold citrus flavor that is both refreshing and sharp. This is balanced by a light herbal complexity from the juniper and other botanicals, creating a clean and layered mouthfeel. There's a touch of spice from the botanicals, enhancing the overall complexity.
Finish
The finish is crisp and clean, with lingering citrus notes and a delicate herbal aftertaste. The kaffir lime leaves leave a refreshing, slightly tangy sensation on the palate, making for a smooth and uplifting conclusion.
