A Top Secret Formula
Our beloved Amaro was created in 1885, initially under the name Elisir Lungavita, and was an instant success. Eleven years later, when the glamorous Princess Elena of Montenegro married Prince Victor Emmanuel III, Stanislao decided to dedicate his elixir to her royal highness, and changed its name to Amaro Montenegro.
The recipe for Amaro Montenegro includes more than 40 botanicals, with a complex extraction and mixing process that makes the elixir unique and inimitable. To protect his recipe from imitation, Stanislao locked the original, which he had personally transcribed, away in a safe. Today, the exact ingredients, doses and processes are still fiercely protected and known to only a select few people.
